Quotes & Misquotes

I got an email today from Mary Morrissey with the subject line "What did Gandhi REALLY say?" I don't know Mary personally, but I have watched several of her videos and webinars. I like her style and message so I subscribe. Today's email piqued my interest, so I dug deeper and found this.

We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.
— Gandhi quote
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
— Gandhi misquote

Gandhi's misquote has always spoken to me. Someone did an amazing job of drawing out a succinct imperative from his original thought. I'm grateful to Mary for pointing to its source. I can ponder the full depth of his insight for myself and let him speak more directly to me. And now, so can you.
