The Wind In Your Hair
by Carl Godlove
If you take off from here, and fly over there,
what will you see with the wind in your hair?
Will you bump into elephants, with big flappy ears?
Will you pass by small piglets, with long flowing beards?
Will the clouds be all fluffy, like spun cotton candy
that melts in your mouth. Oh that is so handy!
If you take off from here, and fly over there,
what will you see with the wind in your hair?
Will the moon come say “Hi!” as you fly through the sky
with some crackers and cheese and some milk, if you please?
Will the sun blow a kiss, all toasty and warm,
that scatters the clouds and drives off the storm?
If you take off from here, and fly over there,
what will you see with the wind in your hair?
Will mountains rise up to greet you with smiles,
and tickle your toes for miles upon miles?
Will you laugh with your belly so hard you can’t stop
till you come to the end of the very last treetop?
When here is behind and there is in sight,
how will you be at the end of your flight?
Will your belly be full of yummy delights?
Will your face have a smile that lights up the lights?
Will you ponder what waits as you land in this place,
full of wonder and love and all of God's grace?
Now that you're here, and your past here is there,
who will you be with the wind in your hair?

My Dearest Zelda Elizabeth,
You inspired me to write this while you were still in mommy's belly, no bigger than an apple. My wonder and love for you knows no limit.
When you're bigger, there may be days when you wonder about where you've been and where you're going. I want to remind you that "here" and "there" are never as far apart as they may seem; that the journey between them is as great an adventure as you wish to have; and that no matter what struggles you face between them, they are always connected by great love, and that is their greatest gift. So it was with your birth. So it is with your life.
Always and Forever,
Papa
